Centennial Tree Project
Know a great tree?
If it’s likely that the tree is at least 100 years old, we’d love to know about it too. Radnor Conservancy, together with the Shade Tree Commission and the Watershed class at the Middle School, has kicked off a new project to document the majestic and historic trees in our township. The project, which focuses on trees that are 100 years or older, will photograph, document, and map the locations of identified Radnor Centennial Trees.
The Middle School students will map significant trees using geographic information systems (GIS) technology. This cutting-edge teaching tool became available to the Middle School this year through a grant from the
Radnor Educational Foundation. The Centennial Tree project will be one of the first projects undertaken with the new GIS technology.
We are pleased to be working with the RMS teachers and students as well as our project advisors from Chanticleer, Cabrini College, and Jenkins Arboretum on this new project.
You can contribute to the project as well.
We are seeking nominations of Centennial Trees from the public. If you know of significant older trees in Radnor that you feel should be included in this inventory of Centennial Trees, feel free to nominate your tree for inclusion. You can notify us by any of the following means: contact Ginny Kreitler through the e-mail link on this site or at 610.325.9809, or contact teacher Banny Ackerman at banny.ackerman@rtsd.org or at 610.386.6300x6800. We look forward to your nominations!
